Mark my words: Lessons learnt from a Nexus oral assessment redesign project

In this Practitioner Workshop, May and Nasrin will share insights gained from a recent Nexus project on redesigning oral assessments within the UNSW Faculty of Engineering. The project sought to address challenges related to the validity, reliability, equitability, and feasibility of oral assessment in engineering courses. The presenters will explore key lessons learned, including the importance of good assessment co-design, effective training for assessors, strategies, and resources to support students, interdisciplinary collaboration, and support from school/faculty leadership. Attendees will gain perspectives on how to refine oral assessment practices to foster more accurate, equitable, and meaningful evaluations in engineering education.
