Creating engaging remote learning communities

Presented by Dr Simit Raval

Creating engaging remote learning communities

How do you engage a diverse mix of PG students who work on remote mine sites across Australia and overseas, coupled with a handful of on-campus students?

In our first Connections seminar of the year, Dr Simit Raval, Senior Lecturer in the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering, delves into his online teaching techniques that engage his geographically dispersed students, and enable them to contribute to quality information exchange.

His innovative approaches, such as implementing effective discussion forums linked to assessment, and adopting a ‘SEAM blog’ that requires students to demonstrate integration between industry news and academic literature, have been highly praised by students and colleagues from UNSW and other universities, as well as globally through the Society of Mining Professors (SOMP).
