This workshop aims to build understanding and confidence in supporting neurodivergent students in the classroom.
Part one provides foundational knowledge on executive functioning skills in diverse populations (e.g. autism, ADHD).
In part two, participants will engage in perspective taking exercises that give insight into supporting neurodivergent learners with executive functioning challenges. Teaching strategies will be debriefed in groups and inclusive education tips will be shared.
About the Speakers
Rachel Kasturi is an equitable learning facilitator with expertise in supporting adults with cognitive and linguistic differences that influence communication and learning. Prior to joining us at UNSW, Rachel worked as an academic in speech pathology in the United States, where her teaching and research focussed on autistic communication styles.
Will Scates Frances is a historian, educational designer and academic learning facilitator at UNSW. His interests range from eschatology to neurodiversity and you can find him around campus delivering writing workshops, facilitating tutorials, gesticulating lectures or engrossed in a coffee overlooking the library lawn.
