Are you a course convenor/education developer wanting to review and update your assessments to improve AI compatibility of the tasks and ensure academic integrity? If you are not sure where to start or just haven’t found the time yet, this workshop might be just what you need to get started.

During this collaborative, hands-on workshop, you will have the opportunity to bring your own assessment/s for review and brainstorm ideas for improvement. We will explore practical strategies to identify AI vulnerabilities in existing assessments and share tips for rethinking tasks to create a more robust learning experience. Discussions will cover key factors to consider when reviewing assessments, along with practical strategies for modifying them, including how to incorporate AI tools where appropriate. Tips for writing detailed assessment descriptions that specify the approved level of AI usage will be shared and offer considerations for designing rubrics. Peer review opportunities can be organised for those interested.  

You will walk away with actionable insights, revisions and the tools to make your assessments more relevant in the AI era.

Dr Dhanushi Abeygunawardena
Dr Dhanushi Abeygunawardena

Dr Dhanushi Abeygunawardena is an education-focused lecturer and a Nexus Fellow from the School of BABS, in the faculty of Science. Having designed and delivered new undergraduate and professional development courses, Dhanushi has extensive experience in curriculum and course design and co-leads the Course Design and Development CoP at UNSW. As the Nexus Fellow, she is leading the curriculum revision and redesign in the School of BABS and is co-leading the genomics curriculum redesign in the Medicine Program. Dhanushi is passionate about ensuring students are equipped with the most current knowledge and skills, with a particular focus on designing curricula and assessments that reflect the evolving needs of the workforce and technological advancements.

 

Dr Nirmani Wijenayake
Dr Nirmani Wijenayake

Dr Nirmani Wijenayake is an education-focused Senior Lecturer from the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. With over 13 years of experience in higher education, she has taught and coordinated large undergraduate courses in biochemistry and cell biology. With a passion for promoting teamwork and collaboration, student well-being, project-based learning, and innovative technology, she has made a significant impact on promoting student engagement and learning. Nirmani won the UNSW Vice Chancellor’s teaching award for outstanding contribution to student learning in 2020 and is a Senior Fellow of the UK’s higher education academy.
