Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

There is a suite of support offered to staff interested in learning more about the Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SOTL). These are open to EF and non-EF staff. Specific examples include:

  • A SOTL series held in the Teaching Commons which offers workshop, presentations by staff on their research and a journal club.
  • Targeted abstract writing workshops and drop-in sessions for educational conferences.
  • Several initiatives to develop skills for peer review and editing of journal articles, which include collaborations with Teaching and Learning Inquiry (TLI) and the Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice (JUTLP).
  • Professional development events for UNSW HEA Fellows, as well as the UNSW Connections seminar series, also provide opportunities to learn about and develop new skills in SOTL.

Lightning & Practitioner Workshops

Lightning & Practitioner Workshops are one-hour hybrid workshops that concentrate on essential topics in teaching and learning. These interactive workshops share evidence-based teaching practices, allowing attendees to discover how these strategies can be implemented in their own teaching and courses. The workshops feature presenters from various faculties across the university and are open to all teaching and education support staff.

EF CoPs Lunch and Learns

The EF Communities of Practice organise the EF CoPs Lunch and Learn series. Hosted in the Teaching Commons, the Lunch & Learns are open to all staff from across UNSW interested in learning and teaching. Each session features a different format and guest speakers ranging from presentations, workshops, panels, discussions and professional development activities, and kicks off with a networking lunch. For more information on upcoming Lunch & Learns and to register visit the Teaching Commons website.
