New dedicated phone line for staff with a focus on supporting student mental health
UNSW Wellbeing is a university-wide initiative to promote the health and wellbeing of our campus community. This includes the embodiment of a healthy mind, body, places and culture. UNSW Health and Wellbeing teams have launched new and improved services, in line with the University’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy, to support the resilience of students and to help our staff access advice on supporting the students who may need it.
Services and resources for staff
- New dedicated phone line for staff in support of student mental health
Operated by mental health clinicians who can give advice to academic and professional staff around managing concerns relating to student mental health.

- Healthy Universities Initiative for education staff
The Healthy Universities Initiative focuses on supporting student success and wellbeing specifically within teaching and the curriculum.
New video resources showcasing tested, effective approaches and strategies are now available - scroll down to 'Practical examples' section on their Teaching Gateway page.
New and improved student services
Staff should be aware of these services and flag with students who may need them
- "Mental Health Connect"
A triage response team who are the first port of call for students to determine the most appropriate support based upon particular circumstances consistent with step care model of help.
- Out of hours: UNSW Mental Health Support Line
After-hours support for students in Australia with the ability to offer the student the option to divert to UNSW Mental Health Connect during business hours, and vice versa.
